Biography

Jonathan has an extensive litigation practice. He represents plaintiffs and defendants in a variety of legal matters, including wrongful death and personal injury; construction litigation; insurance coverage disputes and bad faith; business litigation; property disputes, civil rights/constitutional claims; and a wide range of employment cases; probate-related matters; administrative hearings and appeals; and mediation.

Jonathan has defended more than 1,000 criminal cases and has handled hundreds of civil cases. He has tried many jury trials, both in civil and criminal cases. He has appeared in 40 of Alabama's 67 counties and all three federal district courts. Jonathan also has a significant appellate practice, with approximately 20 reported decisions. He has also presented oral argument at the Alabama Supreme Court and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit.

Jonathan also serves on the Court Advisory Committee for the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Alabama; is Chairman of the Lee County Indigent Contract Award Committee and also serves on the Indigent Defense Advisory Committee for the 37th Judicial Circuit. He also previously served on the committee that formed and established the Lee County Veteran's Court Program and the Lee County Rapid Resolution Docket, including serving as its first contract counsel from 2021-2023. Jonathan is also an active participant in the Pro Se Assistance Program for the Middle District of Alabama.

While in law school, Jonathan worked at the Alabama House of Representatives and interned at the Alabama Supreme Court and the Alabama Sentencing Commission. Prior to attending law school, Jonathan served in the United States Marine Corps, serving in combat in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2003. Jonathan and his wife, also an attorney, reside in Auburn with their four children.
