About Us

From C.S. Whittelsey, III to his grandson, Davis B. Whittelsey, the Whittelsey family has been practicing law in Lee County, Alabama, for more than 90 years. Our firm traces its roots back to 1918, when C.S. Whittelsey, III, after returning home after serving in World War I, opened a law office in Opelika.

In 1958, C.S. "Whit" Whittelsey, IV, continued the tradition by beginning his law practice in Opelika, after serving as the executive secretary to Alabama congressman George W. Andrews in Washington, D.C. Whit subsequently served the Lee County community as Judge of the Court of Common Pleas and Juvenile Court for four terms from 1959 through 1975, while continuing in the practice of law.

In 1972, the building which currently houses our office was constructed. Our law office is located on the very site where Whit's grandfather and Davis' great-grandfather, C.S. Whittelsey, Jr., resided in the late 1880's until his death.

In 1990, Whit and Davis formed Whittelsey & Whittelsey, P.C.  Robert G. Poole, a native of Columbus, Mississippi, who was hired as an associate of Whittelsey, Whittelsey & Poole, P.C in 1994 became a partner in 2002. The firm then changed its name to Whittelsey, Whittelsey & Poole, P.C. Bobby had previously served the firm as an associate since 1994.

Today, our firm has four full-time practicing attorneys:  Davis Whittelsey, Bobby Poole, W. David Dawson, a native of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, who joined the firm in 2007, and Jonathan K. Corley, a native of Opelika, who joined the firm in 2009. Whit is now of counsel to the firm.

For almost a century, our firm has been providing quality legal advice and counsel to residents of Lee and the surrounding counties. If you have a legal dilemma, whether criminal or civil, contact us to set up an appointment. See for yourself why experience matters.
